  8. Estandon Provence Rose

    Estandon Provence Rose

1947 Jean Bagnis launched Estandon. Consistency, quality and service were the strategic ingredients that were to go on to make Estandon a success. At the time, this pioneer already realised that to make an impression, you had to be different. In 1973, the winemakers in the wine cooperatives - especially in the Var - pooled their expertise with the creation of a cooperative union. In the early 1980s, the union built cellars and offices in Brignoles, and bottling and bag-in-box packaging activities began to develop. As the vintages passed by, new wineries in the Var and Bouches-du-Rhone joined the group, uniting around the “Cellier de Saint Louis” brand. In 2005, the union welcomed the Vignerons des Caves de Provence, owners of the Estandon brand. Thus the “Cercle des Vignerons de Provence” was born, representing 10 % of wine production in Provence. In 2012, on the strength of this collective success, all the winemakers entered into a new dynamic: Estandon Vignerons. This new era is based on the principles that have ensured ??the success of the brand: committed values, a talent for sharing, responsible behaviour, and an invitation to discovery. Learn More
  9. 2015 Boschendal The Rose Garden

    2015 Boschendal The Rose Garden

“Soft and juicy, bouncing with succulent ripe strawberries, raspberries and mulberries tinged with a hint of spice. Finishes with great balance, freshness and fruity intensity.”

The historic rose garden at Boschendal is a national treasure, housing one of the oldest collections of roses in the Cape.

    Vintage: 2015

Varieties: A classic blend of noble red wine varieties

    Wine of Origin: Coastal Region

    In the Vineyard

Grapes were sourced from a cross-section of regions selected for optimal expression of each variety. Vineyard tactics included pruning to two-bud spurs, shoot removal, bunch thinning and canopy management for best ripeness and quality. Grapes were hand-harvested from mid-February to late March at an average ripeness of between 21 and 22°B.

To achieve the desired colour, most of the juice was drained directly after crushing, with some blocks receiving up to two hours of skin contact. Each variety was handled separately and fermented cold at 14°C to retain the delicate aromas and flavours. The final blending of varieties created complexity, consistency and balance before bottling.

    Winemaker’s Tasting Notes

    • On the Nose: Enticing crushed summer berry aromas.
    • Palate: Soft and juicy, bouncing with succulent ripe strawberries, raspberries and mulberries tinged with a hint of spice. Finishes with great balance, freshness and fruity intensity.

Ageing potential: Best enjoyed within a year of vintage, although the weight and concentration will allow for up to three years of bottle maturation.

  10. 2015 Mulderbosch Cabernet Sauvignon Rose

    2015 Mulderbosch Cabernet Sauvignon Rose

    Wine of Origin: Coastal Region
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Barrel ageing: none
Maturation: 1 – 2 years from date of vintage

Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards are managed specifically with the idea of rosé production in mind. Early picking dates result in naturally high levels of acidity and a bright spectrum of fruit aromas ideal in rosé style wines. Once pressed, the juice is handled as per Sauvignon Blanc, i.e. cool fermentation with aromatic yeasts to heighten the vibrant, zesty aromas and fresh mineral palate. Crucial to this style of rosé is early bottling in order to preserve the wine’s inherent freshness.

Serve well chilled. An excellent aperitif or picnic wine. Serve with fresh, seared tuna steaks; veal limone; poached salmon; cold crayfish salad; sushi.

The colour is inviting, reminiscent of ripe, freshly sliced watermelon. The nose is bright, revealing immediate notes of juicy strawberries, and delicate rose petal aromatics with a nuance of earthy Cabernet Sauvignon savouriness. This beautifully balanced rosé has layers of flavours which contribute to its distinct, complex palate. Fresh acidity and a low alcohol provide the savoury core of this wine, yet the abundance of Cabernet Sauvignon fruit flavours such as fresh strawberries, ripe cherries and subtle notes of white peach provide the immediate joy of a basket of inviting summer fruits.

    Aime Rosquesante Rose

We always take it as a good sign when a French wine producer’s website is only in French; it suggests that concern for marketing (at least across the Atlantic) isn’t trumping winemaking. That focus shows: for one thing, this wine is the pale salmon color we like in a rosé, rather than the terrifying neon pink of some wines we tasted. More importantly, the Roquesante manages to balance delicious fruit with refreshing acidity like only a Provençal rosé can. Just try to drink it without imagining Mediterranean beaches. We dare you.
