  1. Silver Thread Dry Riesling

    Silver Thread Dry Riesling

    Size 750ML

Wine Spectator 90 "A light, pure and persistent white, with jicama, honeysuckle and talc notes racing along, backed by lingering floral and lemon pulp hints. Drink now through 2015. 600 cases made. –JM" " Silver Thread Vineyard was established in 1982 on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake, at the heart of New York’s Finger Lakes region. At this location the bottom of the lake drops almost 200 feet below sea level, a dramatic mass of water that creates a distinct microclimate on the leeward (eastern) hillside — cooling breezes in summer, radiating warmth through the winter, and extending the length of the growing season. On this hillside 250 years ago the Iroquois people tended huge peach orchards, a testament to this temperate ‘island’ within a cool region. The turtle image on our label was carved in a rock beside one of New York’s woodland creeks by a Native American artist many centuries ago. As an earth symbol to the Iroquois people, the turtle reminds us to care for the land and water that give us the gift of wine. Silver Thread’s seven-acre vineyard and ecologically-designed wine cellar were established by organics enthusiast and author Richard Figiel. Since the late 1980’s, the vineyard has followed the principles of sustainable farming. We use mulch, compost and cover crops instead of chemical fertilizers to provide our vines with a healthy, living soil. This strengthens the link between the wine and its terroir, the special character of its site. Our energy-efficient tasting room and wine cellar building, built in 1995, is set into the hillside for natural temperature control and to take advantage of gravity flow in the winemaking process. Water is also gravity fed to the winery from a spring next to the vineyard. Besides gravity, wind-generated electricity purchased from the grid is our sole source of power. Natural cork, a renewable resource, and lightweight glass bottles are used to reduce the environmental impact of our packaging. Critically-acclaimed winemaker Paul Brock and wine educator Shannon Brock assumed ownership of Silver Thread Vineyard in 2011. Paul Brock has crafted a portfolio of intense and high-quality wines that are already well-received by Finger Lakes wine aficionados. General Manager Shannon Brock, who has been a leader in the hospitality industry in the Finger Lakes for the past several years, is putting her expertise to work to create an outstanding tasting room experience. Silver Thread is staying true to its roots despite new ownership. It remains a boutique winery focused on sustainable viticulture and premium estate wines. Production is currently 2,200 cases per year. Wines are available for sale at the tasting room, via mail order, in select stores and restaurants throughout New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. Silver Thread’s vineyard, wine cellar and tasting room are located ¾ mile off Route 414 (the wine trail) in a quiet and naturally beautiful environment. The vineyard and tasting room overlook Seneca Lake. Well-educated and relatively serious wine buyers who care about local and sustainable products will enjoy discovering our off-the-beaten-path location and expressive wines that reflect the terroir of the Finger Lakes. 90 POINTS

    Wine Spectator
The 2012 vintage began with textbook conditions that continued through much of Harvest. Spring bud break was ideal with steady flowering and even fruit set. A lengthy stretch of warm days and cool nights during the summer months allowed for optimal ripeness to develop in the grapes and an exceptional quality overall. Late and light rains held off until the grapes found ripeness, bringing exceptional quality to the crush. Located 17 miles northwest of the winery, Knights Valley vineyard is approximately 600 acres, and has rocky, well-drained soils that are perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Grapes for the 2012 Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon were harvested between October 4th through October 26th.

The 2012 Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of dark blue fruits and spices. Notes of cassis, sweet licorice and a juicy core of fruit are balanced by nice acidity and a silky, lingering finish.

To maintain the unique characteristics of the different lots from varying areas of the vineyard, Chief Winemaker Laurie Hook monitored each of the lots through vinification and aging. The wines were then aged in a combination of seasoned oak barrels with a small amount of new oak for 17 months to both round and soften the tannins and bring in some additional spice notes. The foundation of the Waymaker is Syrah, a varietal that demonstrates great richness and generosity from Camatta Hills. Cabernet Sauvignon comprises the majority of the balance of the blend, and lends great depth of fruit as well as lifted spice notes. Laurie blended in a portion of Petite Sirah for its aromatics and rich, inky color.

Elegant and balanced, with depth and a lingering, subtle finish. Drink now through 2020." 92 Points Wine Spectator "The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino wraps around the palate with layers of rich, seductive fruit. There is plenty of expressiveness in the glass, even if the wine loses some of its persistence on the mid-palate and finish. This is a tasty, approachable Brunello that should drink well right out of the gate. The 2007 spent three years in Slavonian and French oak casks." 91 Points The Wine Advocate Learn More

Pulido Walker Cabernet Sauvignon "Melanson Vineyard" Napa Valley 2012 Sold out all over, we loved it and we bought a few extra for our clients 2012 Pulido-Walker Cabernet Sauvignon Melanson Vineyard Even more compelling is the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Melanson Vineyard, which comes from high on Pritchard Hill at a 1,400 foot elevation. A killer Cabernet, it reveals copious aromas of blueberry liqueur, graphite, blackberry, licorice, incense and forest floor. Full-bodied, long, rich and even more complex and deeper than the Panek Vineyard cuvee, it should drink well for at least two decades. This is a very impressive start-up. Thomas Brown is the consulting winemaker for these two impressive Cabernet Sauvignon debut releases. MELANSON VINEYARD Between boulders clinging stubbornly to the steep slopes of Pritchard Hill, the Melanson Vineyard sits east of Oakville among some of the most highly regarded and closely held vineyard properties in the Napa Valley. Vines grow at elevations from 1,100 to 1,380 ft. above sea level, in fractured serpentine and clay soils laden with igneous and seabed rock. Melanson’s southwestern exposure is a distinct advantage, especially at elevations that translate to later bud break and harvest. Solar radiation is magnified at this altitude, while variations between high and low temperatures are moderated. The result is mountain fruit with thicker skins and higher tannins. The ink-black, super-concentrated berries are powerfully expressive of the site, with pronounced granite minerality. The higher tannins give the wine more structure with less weight on the palate and excellent aging potential. Vineyard Facts Appellation: St. Helena, Napa Valley Site: 10.5 acres on Pritchard Hill, adjacent to Colgin Estate Elevation: 1,100–1,380 ft. Soil Composition: Fractured serpentine and clay with igneous and seabed rock Planted: 1999 Varietal: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Clones: 7 and 337 Learn More

94 points Antonio Galloni Savory herbs, menthol, smoke and licorice are some of the aromas that open up in the glass in the 2011 Dominus. This is a relatively immediate, expressive Dominus with plenty of near-term appeal. The style is open and succulent for the year, with lovely balance and poise. Crushed rose petals and dried herbs linger in the close. With time in the glass, the 2011 fleshes out nicely. In 2011 Dominus is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc. (11/ 2013) 90-92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 86% cabernet sauvignon, 9% petit verdot and 5% cabernet franc): Good dark red. Perfumed, cool nose melds redcurrant, tobacco leaf, licorice, coffee, leather, clove oil and chicory, plus piquant notes of pepper (green, black and white!). Riper, suppler and deeper than the Napanook blend, but still with a pronounced herbal quality to the currant, tobacco leaf and clove oil flavors. More lift here too, though the dusty tannins arrive early. Ultimately much more structured than the Napanook. Mostero noted that yields were about average in 2011, as there was no serious loss of fruit during flowering. (5/ 2013) Learn More

2007 Caymus Special Select Cabernet Sauvignon

    Size 750ML

Caymus Vineyards produces two Cabernets Sauvignons - a "Napa Valley" and the venerable "Special Selection". Both Cabernet bottlings have aromas and flavors which can only be achieved through "hang time" - a technique which chances the loss of crop if early winter sets in. Leaving the fruit to "hang" on the vine unusually long develops suppleness, increases color, and matures the tannins of the grapes. The wines are abundant in textural tannins yet soft as velvet. Crop thinning, allowing measured sunlight to reach the vine's fruit zone, and waiting for increased ripeness are all part of our viticultural practices. Caymus Cabernets offer a wide array of aromas and flavors including cocoa, cassis and vanilla. Caymus Special Selection is the flagship wine of the Wagner family and is comprised of the very best barrels of the vintage. This wine is not produced in difficult years. Learn More

  33. 2005 Chateau Pavie Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

2005 Chateau Pavie Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

    Size 750ML

The Wine Advocate: 98+ points Now that the 2005 Pavie is in the bottle, I would place it, qualitatively, a notch below the prodigious 2000, and a few notches above the blockbuster 2003. There are 7,000 cases of this 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon blend. Disregarding the blatant jealousy of his success as well as his “outsider” status, proprietor Gerard Perse has pushed the envelope of quality, fashioning first-growth quality wines from one of Bordeaux’s finest terroirs. In St.-Emilion, only Ausone can be considered to have greater potential in terms of micro-climate and terroir. Pavie’s 2005 exhibits a thick-looking purple color to the rim as well as an exquisite perfume of blueberry and blackberry liqueur, unsmoked cigar tobacco, crushed rocks, damp earth, and hints of truffles and incense. The vineyard’s limestone soils have provided massive concentration, a laser-like precision, fresh, zesty acidity, and massive tannin. Despite the wine’s enormous concentration and intensity, there is a lightness to its style. As Perse has made clear, he is trying to produce modern day versions of such great vintages as 1921, 1929, 1945, and 1947, wines that lasted 50 or more years. I do not understand why Perse receives so much criticism. In the blind tastings of each new vintage conducted by the Grand Jury European, Pavie usually wins against 100 or so other great Bordeaux. As they say, the truth is irrefutable - this is one of the world’s most outstanding wines, and the 2005 Pavie should take its place among the greatest achievements of Bordeaux in the last 50 years. Place your order for this exceptional wine today, and receive it on or around May 16th. Everywhere else gets it in Autumn if they get it at all! 100 Point Wine - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "As for the 2010 Haut-Brion.... it is extraordinary, perfect wine. It has a slightly lower pH than the 2009 (3.7 versus the 2009's 3.8), and even higher alcohol than the 2009 (14.6%). The wine is ethereal. From its dense purple color to its incredibly subtle but striking aromatics that build incrementally, offering up a spectacular smorgasbord of aromas ranging from charcoal and camphor to black currant and blueberry liqueur and spring flowers, this wine’s finesse, elegant yet noble power and authority come through in a compelling fashion. It is full-bodied, but that’s only apparent in the aftertaste, as the wine seems to float across the palate with remarkable sweetness, harmony, and the integration of all its component parts – alcohol, tannin, acidity, wood, etc. This prodigious Haut-Brion is hard to compare to another vintage, at least right now, but it should have 50 to 75 years of aging potential. Anticipated maturity: 2022-2065+. Kudos to the team at Haut-Brion and to the proprietors, the Dillon family, who are now represented admirably and meticulously by Prince Robert of Luxembourg. He has made some changes, and all of them seem to have resulted in dramatic improvements to what was already an astonishing group of wines. (2/ 2013) 96-99 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar Deep ruby-purple. Brooding, closed nose hints at strawberry, ripe red cherry, white pepper, minerals and violet; showing its cabernet franc element today. Rich and full on entry, displaying lovely depth to its ripe red fruit, underbrush and tobacco flavors. Harmonious acidity keeps this concentrated, dense wine dancing on the palate. Finishes smooth and very long, and still youthfully tight. Another great Haut-Brion, atypically dominated by the cabernet franc presence. I'd venture to say that Haut-Brion is remarkably Lafleur-like this year. One of the stars of the vintage. (6/ 2011) 99 points Wine Spectator *Collectibles* Sappy, tongue-coating pastis, blackberry coulis and loganberry fruit starts this huge wine off, followed by a parade of licorice snap, violet, tar, black tea, roasted alder, wood spice and steeped black cherry fruit notes. A beam of pure cassis drives through this version, and the finish pulls everything together with a mouthwatering brambly edge that should soften slowly over time. A riveting display of brawny power, unbridled energy and high-level terroir. Best from 2020 through 2040. (1/ 2013) 97 points James Suckling This is very spicy with dried mushroom aromas with dark fruits and plum undertones. Sweet tobacco as well. This is full-bodied, with lots of tannins that are chewy and firm. This is muscular for HB and flexing it. Try in 2020. (2/ 2013) 95-97 points Wine Enthusiast Very firm, dry tannic, structured. The wine is full of acidity very tough and dry. A concentration of flavors in a dark, brooding framework. (6/ 2011) Learn More

When Pierre Voisin created his cognac house together with Olivier Blanc in 1972, he named it after his grandfather, Léopold Gourmel. Both founders were fond of his authenticity, his closeness to nature when attending his vineyards, his garden and when fishing on the shore of his island, Ile de Ré, off La Rochelle in the Atlantic Ocean . Such a respect for the environment perfectly matched their vision of a natural cognac. As a further reference to Léopold , a horse saddler by profession, they chose the horse’s head as the house logo. Here again, there couldn’t be a better sign than man’s best conquest to symbolize the noble, elegant and refined cognac from Léopold Gourmel. Beyond the emotional link, the justification of this choice can be found in the powerful pronunciation of this name. Saying Léopold Gourmel immediately brings promises of new flavours and moments of complicity. These cognacs are found in every Michelin rated restaurant in France Learn More

This Cognac boasts only the finest flavors. You are greeted by a noble deep amber color. On the nose there are aromas of delicate flowers, rich fruits and intense spices. On the palate, Louis XIII takes you on a world journey: to China with flavors of lychee and ginger, to Cuba with cigars and cigar box, and Central America with cinnamon. The packaging of Louis XIII shares almost as much history as the Cognac itself. The idea for the glass came from an old bottle found by Emile Rémy Martin on a Jarnac battlefield. Since then, the carafe has evolved into its distinguished shape, manufactured by Baccarat since 1936. A solid gold collar encases the neck, which is adorned by a signature fleur-de-lys crystal stopper. Its Baroque-style glass and design may have been the inspiration for the name Louis XIII, a French king who ruled during the Baroque era. It is also noted that the Rémy Martin family had close connections with King Louis XIII, which serves as another explanation for the Cognac's name. Also of note: the exquisite red box that the bottle comes in is the first new design in 25 years. Learn More
